Head of the Passaic

The Head of the Passaic is less than a week away!  It is time to plan how you can help your athletes succeed.

Please sign up at Signup.com today so we can make sure your rowers have everything they need on race day! Rowers are expected to arrive 2+ hours before their race start time to unload and rig the boats, during that time, parents who are attending the regatta set up the PCRA Hospitality Tent and prepare breakfast for the rowers.  So, if your rower is in one of the first races, we hope we can count on you on Sunday morning.  We need six people to erect the tents at 6:00am, no previous experience is required, and more experienced parents will be there to assist.  This is a great time to get to know the other parents, and enjoy breakfast yourself.  Of course you will have time to watch and cheer for the rowers!  Please let us know if you are able and willing to do the 1st shift of the season at the Hospitality Tent by signing up at Signup.com.

The festive spirit at our regattas is a key part of the enjoyment, so we are grateful to all the volunteers that make this possible.  If you plan to be at Head of the Passaic, once you know your schedule, please select your volunteer shift at the Hospitality Tent, and support the rowers from the shore, with freshly prepared food, and a place to hang out with friends.  If you cannot support your rower at a Head of the Passaic, but they are participating, please sign up for one of the other volunteer tasks critical to successful hospitality.  The Hospitality Tent expenses are covered by your PCRA Parents Association Dues, information on dues for Fall 2017 can be found here:  PCRA Parents Association Dues.

To assist you in selecting your volunteer shift here is the official Head of the Passaic Schedule

Some important information to remember:

  • Rowers should arrive 2+ hours before race start time. If car pooling, all athletes should get to the boat-trailer 2+ hours before carpools’ earliest race.  Athletes are not arriving early to help unload and rig… they are arriving early to unload and rig.
  • Only rowers and volunteers should be around the boat trailer at regattas.  The area around the boat trailer can be hectic and it is safer to let rowers concentrate on the race without involvement from parents.
  • No food will be available for rowers at the boat-trailer, all rowers should go to PCRA hospitality tents to eat.
  • Water and Gatorade will be available to all rowers at the boat-trailer, don’t forget your water bottles.
  • Parents, please come to regattas to support the team.  If you cannot attend a regatta, please identify another parent who will be in loco parentis for your child from departure to return (carpool parent).
  • Directions and parking information can be found on the Head of the Passaic website and by using the following links: Parking and  Directions.

We can’t wait to see you and Go PCRA!
